Named for its central South Park location at the corner of Fern St. and Grape St., recently opened bar and restaurant Fernside offers a comfortable sidewalk patio and large windows kept open on clear days. Both architectural details help the prime hangout spot feel truly in step with the friendly attitude of the neighborhood. Offering three distinct burgers to pair with its selection of craft beer and craft cocktails help it feel well in step with the entire burger loving city.
The signature Fernside Burger
The signature Fernside Burger adopts the trending smash burger style, grilling two flattened beef patties with melted American cheese, putting them between buns with shredded lettuce, onion, and pickle slices. Heftier eaters will want to lean towards the aptly named Half Pounder, which grills an 8-ounce brisket patty to dress with onion confit, tomato, and aged white cheddar. Both beef burgers fit on a sesame bun, with the thousand-island-like “fern sauce.” The eatery’s Vegan Burger, however, begins with toasted vegan focaccia. That provides the base for a house patty made from beets and chickpeas, dressed simply with lettuce, tomato, pickles, and a vegan fern sauce. Fernside knows South Park so well.
